A Great Blue Heron waits for any sign of motion in Beebe (pronounced beebee) Pond. It was a pleasant afternoon in October, and the fall colors were showing their brilliance. On the right side of the photo are three swimming cormorants. They had been on rocks earlier. But, when I arrived at the pond, they decided to take to the water.

Beebe Pond is in Beebe Pond Park, which is a 95-acre parcel of land in Connecticut, at the corner of Fishtown Road and Noank Road, about half way between the towns of Noank and Mystic. Beebe Cove is nearby, just off Long Island Sound, an estuary of the Atlantic Ocean. The pond and cove are named after Captain Silas Beebe, who apparently used the pond in the winter to provide ice for his family (from the Indian and Colonial Research Center Library at http://www.theicrc.org/vewebsite/exhibit1/e10975a.htm).

Hi John , I like this presentation , though the bird is a bit distant, the colors and atmosphere are nice , and the heron is displayed in a natural environment with good use of a natural frame.

it is unfortunate that the bird is not facing the other direction but not much one can do about that :-) , it does pose somewhat of a compisitional conundrume though having it facing towards the stronger more closed element of the natural frame...

thanks for sharing
regards

Hi John!

You gave this picture a nice natural framing that highlights the main subject very well. The colours are superb and reminds us of the autumn that is standing in front of the door. Maybe the heron is a little bit far away, but the picture is very pleasant.

Kind regards

Markus
