Now I know it is Spring...the first sight that greeted me this morning at the sanctuary were the irridescent male Tree Swallows soaring and swooping . They twinkling chimes filled the air and they were a sight for these winter weary eyes. The rest of the warm weather birds can't be far behind now!

The males are the first to arrive where they have their contests of who can fly the fastest and who can stake claim to a nesting box...they will chase each other and the most amazing mid-air ballet-like mock battles to prove their prowess to females who will arrive shortly. Then the frenzy really begins!

At this time of year the males are so busy with each other that they allow one to get quite close. Most of my images from this morning are only a small crop for composition.

Lucky you to have them back so soon, here we are still waiting.

Really good capture Lesley. You captured the lovely blue colours perfect and even without burning the white - great job. He is a real beauty and I am sure he will be very popular when the females arrive;-).

Hi, Lesley .
That's a very original object. Very interesting.
Composition, colors are splendid and exposure is excellent. Very well done.

What a pretty poser you captured here, great POV and nicely oof bg. Whites beautifully handled and the shimmer on his neck and back nicely rendered.

Excellent capture of this swallow. Great color and detail. A perfect backround sets your subject apart very well. Nixe Work!

Hi Lesley, the Tree swallow is one of my favorite birds of spring. I enjoy watching them do their acrobatics in the air.
A beautiful composition and well exposed. Pleasing to the eye. Well done on this one.

Great picture of the Tree Swallow Leslie, it's funny that you mentioned it was your first sight this year, I did the same this morning when I went for a walk, I always take my camera,I went to a Blue Heron colony and ran in to some swallows in the same area. Beautiful details and colors in your picture. I hope spring will be in full bloom in your area, looking forward to see more of your pictures.

Beautiful bird Lesley, wonderful details and great composition, very well done.

Hi Lesley.
Very nice composition with well controlled exposure, which has maintained detail throughout the white feathers. Set off perfectly against that background, lovely work.

Very good picture of this easy to photograph bird, but not so easy to get right. Fine details, good pose and perfect background.
Yes! Spring is there.

La pose de l'oiseau est parfaite et la lumiére fait bien ressortir les merveilleuses couleurs de cet hirondelle.

Félicitations pour la prise de vue et l'exposition.

A stunning capture Lesley. The colours are fantastic, and you've done really well with the white (which I always seem to burn). Amazing detail, good job with the composition.

This is very nice Lesley, the quality is nice, very nice but what I am most impressed with is how you managed to capture one at all. I have never, ever seen a swallow perched like this. Beautiful.

You've got the essence of this beautiful bird, Lesley. Colors, exposure and contrast very well handled, despite the high sun. Special mention to the feathers details and color shades. I share your enthusiasm... ours (barn swallows) are back since april 2!
