Few days ago I purchased a scanner. That gave me a chance to post some of my old pre-digital photos. Unfortunately they will always look worse from technical point of view. But anyway it's a nice time-journey for me. And, I hope, will be also worth seeing for you :-)

Ring-billed gull (Larus delawarensis)

It's one of the most common seagulls in North America. Often synanthropic, occurs even in big cities, both inland and on the sea coast. It's omnivorous and oportunistic - probably a reason for it's success in colonizing human-altered habitats. Nests in colonies, on ground near water, often with other gull species. Lays 2-4 eggs. Young are able to fly 5 weeks after hatching. The population in North America is estimated at ca. 5 milions.

The species is very easy to recognise by the black complete ring around its yellow beak.

This individual in typical winter plumage, I photographed in New York harbour while waiting in long line to the Statue of Liberty on the New Year's Eve 1996. The weather was terrible that day, rainy, windy and cold. The gull was standing on a tourist telescope.

Hi Michal!

Very common subject here, but you render it beautifully. Sharpness and exposure are excellent. Neutral BG is great. My only question is: What is it standing on ?

Great picture and TFS.

Excellent capture, nice detail on the eye...Well done...

Hi Michael,
This is an excellent shot on the Rigbilled Gull. Great colors in this one. Detail is very sharp. Beautiful clean blue backround really has him standing out. Looks good!

Bonjour Michal, c'est une image très nette et bien exposée. On peut voir plein de détails sur toutes la surface de l'image. Le fond bleu sombre fait bien ressortir l'oiseau. Bravo pour cette belle photo.

Michal, although you mention this is a scanned file, I like the shot.

Very nice composition and pov. I like the soft bg too.

What a pity about the lack of details upon the feathers, but we do comprehend that.

Hi. Michal.
Nice shot. Excellent exposure and colors. Like the POV and background also. Sharp.

Na twoim zdjeciu tam ewa wygląda nawet przyjaxnie- na ogół nie lubie tych ptaków ale z Twoją bym sie chętnie zaprzyajniła.

Great composition and colours shown. The POV, BG and detail of the subject are all good. TFS,
