[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These beautiful prickly purple floers were ground at Wampus Brook Park in North Castle NY.

Bull Thistle is a prickly wildflower which most people consider an annoying weed. Its stems, branches, and leaves are covered with spikes and you should be careful when touching it.

Bull Thistles have pretty purple to pink flowers, one to two inches wide. Leaves are three to six inches long. Bull Thistles can reach six feet tall.

This plant, which is in the Sunflower family, can grow in fields, gardens, and roadsides. Bull Thistle is an introduced plant, but is now common.

Bull Thistle blooms from July to September.

After the flower has finished blooming, the fruits produce "thistledown," small seeds with fluffy stuff on them. This type of seed is called an "achene."

Achenes are transported by wind to new places so new Bull Thistles can grow.

This is nice Angela. I love all the green tones and the sharpness of your ?thistle ? teasel? I can't help with ID!!!
I do think that the wide, black frame competes with it for attention. I'd try a more neutral value...just a thought.

It is in the thistle area....and large enough globes so could be Bull thistle or Canadian Thistle...Looks great the way you framed it! I like it...I am a thistle lover for some reason..although I have lost money betting at a track in Ohio back int eh 1970's...called Thistledown...Weird.Nice image..Well done.

Very nice image Angela,
Love the diagonal composition and the sharpness is excellent. Great exposure, and I like the soft lighting.
Looks like a Bull Thistle to me, we have many growing in our fields behind the house. Well done!!

Nice plant with attractive buds however, composition of the image and framing are the best. Hanging down stems are looked amazingly as well as the wonderful smooth BG. Perfect, so refined art work. MY compliments.

Bonjour Angela,
Superbe macro, assez bien composée, dans laquelle le sujet est bien mis en valeur par la finesse des détails et la délicatesse des couleurs.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
