[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is a male Evening Grosbeak needless to say one of my favorite birds. They are fairly large, striking in color, and not so timid..
Field Guide: Grosbeaks formerly bred no farther east than Minnesota, but food available at bird feeders may have enabled more birds to survive the winter, and the species now breeds east to the Atlantic..
Like most of the northern finches, these birds are more numerous in some years than in others. In winter they feed in flocks mainly on the seeds of box elders or, @ feeders with sunflower seeds..In spring the outer coating of the bill peels off, exposing the blue-green color beneath..
This fellow is a recent visitor in my back yard..
I have seen the female a couple of times as of yet haven't captured an image of her.. |

Hi Jane,
I have never seen an Evening Grosbeak before! How proud he looks in that wonderful pose. Colors are beautiful - I love the shadings of his face. Excellent details of the face with that marvelous eye, the wings and the plummage. A beautiful background and composition.
