[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I have spotted this little fellow (baby) as hovers on a branch chirps &cheps for food from the parent bird who is a male Yellow-rump warbler. It has taken me a while to identify the bird as thought for a while the father adopted a sparrow and was feeding it. Not the case now realize it has the bright yellow spot on rump and is indeed of the same species..
Field Guide: Uncommon along the western edge of eastern North America(nests in the Black Hills of South Dakota); very rare visitor farther east.. Voice similar to Myrtle..This is the only Warbler likely to be seen in the winter. Nests in open coniferous forests and their edges. Winters in open brushy habitats, such as dunes and field edges, especially among fruiting shrubs like bayberry and juniper.Often in small loose flocks. They perch upright on relatively exposed perches, flying up to catch passing insects. A rather large, long-tailed warbler, with stout dark bill. Bright yellow rump-patch distinctive and often conspicuous..
I've only seen the single parent and baby coming to a fruit tree.. |
