[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Almost missed this fella, quietly perched, one leg up ignoring the passing humans. Don't know why, he reminded me of a fuzzy penguin! :0)

These birds stand still at the water's edge and wait to ambush prey, mainly at night or early morning. They primarily eat small fish, crustaceans, frogs, aquatic insects, small mammals and small birds. During the day they rest in trees or bushes.

The breeding habitat is fresh and salt-water wetlands throughout much of the world. The subspecies, hoactli breeds in North and South America from Canada as far south as northern Argentina and Chile, obscurus in southernmost South America, falklandicus in the Falkland Islands, and the nominate race nycticorax in Europe, Asia and Africa.

Black-crowned Night Herons nest in colonies on platforms of sticks in a group of trees, or on the ground in protected locations such as islands or reedbeds. Three to eight eggs are laid.

The scientific name, Nycticorax, means "night raven", and refers to this species' nocturnal habits and harsh crow-like call. In the Falkland Islands, they are known as "quarks", which is an onomatopoeic term.

I posted the more artistic form, maybe should have chose that for the workshop, but will post the first picture I took before playing with my A mode and F stop

Hi Brenda,
Very nice photo of this Night Heron, useful presentation too, TFS!

Hello Brenda,
The Black-crowned Night Heron is such a beautiful bird, you were fortunate to have spotted him posed so nicely for you. Good detail, color and exposure, but unfortunately you missed his feet.
I really like the other photo a little better, since he is looking inward and the foot is more visible. Did a WS, hope you don't mind.

Hi Brenda,
Lucky that you notice this friendly heron and manage to take a good shot. Sharp focus with perfect control of light. TFS,

Nice close one of a this night heron.

Hi Brenda, Very nice capture of this Night Heron, the original shot was not really on here hey?, but however your workshop altered image #2 is the better image of the three, of course in my own humble opinion, the post processing is a little over done here, nevertheless a good effort,
Best Regards,
