Truly was an amazing moment for me. It was nearing sunset, it happened directly in front of me; a splash, swoop and flap to a tree a good distance away! Little did I know what was captured, saw the "writhing" and thought it was a snake.

Watched the Red tailed Hawk nest live this past year at Cornell's live Cam site. Red tailed hawk cam This was the first time I have seen them in the wild up close and REAL! Please feel free to search the link to learn more about Red tailed Hawks in the online species guide.

Will upload some more candid shots of this moment in the workshop. The light at the bottom of the workshop
photo is the top of the railing of the fence.

Hello Brenda,
I too would have been excited to come upon a sight like this in the wild. It is a rarity to see a raptor with it's prey up close like this. I could probably count on one hand the mumber of times I've see a hawk with something in it's talons.
Looks like you also captured some water droplets coming off of the rodent which makes it even more interesting. Nicely composed image and I like the intense look the hawk has on it's face.
Not sure, but white balance might be off just a tad as the BG seems to have a bit of purplish hue to it.
Hope you don't mind but I wanted to try a WS on this beauty.
Ron

Hi Brenda
It sounds like you were very excited about this photo as you should be. The water droplets are proof you captured the moment. Great POV and DOV. I really like the light you caught him in and the pose.
Thanks for sharing
Best regards
Colin
