[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Quadruple in-flight of waders

Less for the photographic quality and more for the novelty value of having captured an acceptable in-flight of four birds of four different species in one frame.

The photo was taken in J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island in Florida, which is an excellent place in the US to photograph long-legged wading birds in winter.

16 species of long-legged wading birds can be seen in the Refuge: American bittern, least bittern, roseate spoonbill, wood stork, great egret, snowy egret, reddish egret, cattle egret, great blue heron, little blue heron, tricolored heron, green heron, black-crowned night-heron, yellow-crowned night-heron, glossy ibis, and the most common, the white ibis.

Here is a link to a complete birding check list of Sanibel.

The photo shows (left to right):
Snowy Egret Egretta thula
Little blue heron Egretta caerulea
Roseate spoonbill Ajaia ajaja
White Ibis Eudocimus albus
The links will take you to some previous posts of mine that show larger versions of each species.

Hi Gabi,
Fantastic scenery.
I like the flying birds contrasting beautifully to the natural background. Very nice composition. Also the different wing positions of the birds makes this picture interesting. Compliments.
Thx and regards, Ruud

Gabi, the quality is great in my opinion.

Besides, as you mention, it's really nice to have different species in just one shot.

Great pov and sharness. I like the environment too.

Hi Gabi,
This picture has a lot of character!
It is beautiful to see all four in flight together and so close to the water!
We may have to reconsider "Birds of a feather flock together"...;-) At least all four are waders...;-)
Excellent composition!
Thanks,
Dave

Four in one, yes, that's something! The technical part is not bad at all; even small, the subjects distributes well in the photo.

Regards, Petru

He he he, this is a good one Gabi! What luck to get those four together. Very well done!

'All the colors of the wind' Walt Disney's Pocahontas, which comes to mind when viewing this extremely nice capture of the 4 different species. Well done Gabi. :)
