[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Was getting out of my van going into work when I saw this beauty. After researching this I believe it may be some kind of Comma Butterfly or possibly Monarch mixed with a Comma. Did not seem startled to have me standing by it to take this picture. I cropped it since it was taken on the yellow line on the asphalted parking lot so the focus could be on the butterfly itself. The bright orange as well as the wing shape look like the Monarch but the white on the edges and the spots resemble the Comma. It could be an entirely different kind of Butterfly. Any guess as to what this one may be? I love the fact that I was able to get the silhouette of the butterfly and you can even see the antennae shadow as well. Enjoy

Hi Dawn,

Beautiful spread wing display of this ????? Question Mark I believe. Always easier to ID with the definitive dorsal view but this seems to be consistent with the ventral markings of Polygonia interrogationis. Impressive focus and a fine pov of this beauty, especially for such a fleeting, per chance encounter. Well done!

Dawn this is so striking !! Never have seen such a beauty before! A gift and thank you for sharing him with us!!
