most probably, this is a Common Green Darner (Anax junius). and a female.

not very sure about the ID, but what am sure of is the fact that it was for the FIRST time i saw a dragonfly with a 'third-eye' or 'bull's eye' kind of pattern like that!! it was literally.. amazing!! i had been roaming around in jungles and marshlands for so long.. studying dragonflies & damselflies.. but never seen such a dragonfly before! no doubt i adore my first experience with this dragonfly :)

i found this creature camouflaged by that Pine tree (?).. while returning from my 'treasure island'. it was around 11 am. i found her near to the lake inside our residential complex.

if this is a female 'Anax junius', then i must say i met a species whose male i had been admiring for long. the male Common Green Darner is my darling. i call it helicopter! ..the way he flies you know :) as if inspecting the land below him :D

the male Common Green Darner has a lovely green-blue combination along with a soothing brown. such a beauty! but never seen him sitting somewhere.. always flying!! :)

Common Green Darner is a big dragonfly.

Hello Ruby,
I remember the first one I photographed a few years ago and also thinking how neat the eye spot was:) I've never seen a marking like this on any other dragonfly, so maybe it is just unique to this particular species.
You really managed to get close to this little lady as she was resting on what might be..(not sure) a type of cedar or juniper tree. The translucent wings really appear dark because of the surrounding leaves in the BG.
Overall a fine shot indeed, and shown in an eyecatching presentation!!
