I watched this mimus polyglottos harass my poor Senor Rojo this morning. Polyglottos was doing a perfect job imitating the cardinal's song, sending my cardinal into a flurry to defend his territory. It's quite the complex world out there for birds.

“Mockingbirds are the true artists of the bird kingdom. Which is to say, although they’re born with a song of their own, an innate riff that happens to be one of the most versatile of all ornithological expressions, mockingbirds aren’t content to merely play the hand that is dealt them. Like all artists, they are out to rearrange reality. Innovative, willful, daring, not bound by the rules to which others may blindly adhere, the mockingbird collects snatches of birdsong from this tree and that field, appropriates them, places them in new and unexpected contexts, recreates the world from the world. For example, a mockingbird in South Carolina was heard to blend the songs of thirty-two different kinds of birds into a ten-minute performance, a virtuoso display that served no practical purpose, falling, therefore, into the realm of pure art.” From the novel, Skinny Legs and All, by Tom Robbins, 1995.

This piece of prose continues and if you can find the book, you need to check it out.

Hi Angelina

Lovely shot great pose and composition, plus excellent detail and exposure.

Hi Angelina,
Your notes are very interesting and this is a beautiful capture of this particular bird that I have never seen in real. I like this composition, details and lightning. You have so many bird species in your state! Thanks,

When you got into TN you got a whole new life eh? I am having a problem with bird images...I take them on my morning walks and they either fly too fast or I cannot carry the heavy lens and then stop...after all I am doing a cardio deal so stopping all the time would wreck the walk. I'll figure it out..thanks for the much needed appreciation from Tejas..you and Howard are the big regulars down there now..and both into birds as well...

Hi Angy,

I usually hear the mockingbird before I see it! It puts on a beautiful performance. Nice shot of this one posing on the branch. I never realized it had such long skinny legs. I love the diagonals in this picture - both the bird and the branch.

Hello Angelina,

What a wonderful image of the Mockingbird photographed surrounded by it's natural surrounding.
Never seen this bird in real, but I love it.
Wonderful pose feather details and tones.
Excellent work on composition and exposure which was'nt easy with all those lighter feather tones.
Although the BG is a little busy, it does'nt distract at all, but adds to the image.
Very well done. TFS!!!

Have a great weekend, Harry

Hi Angelina,
Wonderful shot of this cute looking Mockingbird with very impressive details and colours on its plumage. Great use of available lighting and you have captured a fine pose here. The OOF BG looks nice and illustrates the habitat well. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

Hallo Angeline
You have captured this Mocking Bird in a wonderful close up pose. It seems to be a very elegant and posh looking bird. I like the perfect formed and shaped feathers. It looks so neat and tidy and fit this stylish bird very well. The framing and composition is charming. A pleasant image with great natural colours and light. The colour of your background highlights the details of the bird well, especially the light coloured eye and the fine feathers under the chin. Thank you very much for sharing. I enjoyed this one, as this is a lovely bird. Kind regards

What a great shot Angelina, it is three dimensional! How you do that?!! Perfect colours, the background is lit and so beautiful, I love the colours. The bird is standing, ready to sing and invent and use all the songs he knows, with all its heart. I loved reading your notes too. Thank you for a beautiful picture of utmost interest.

The little feather-ball is captured with fine details in the plumage, and the wing patterns are well reproduced...
Fine light and DoF spot on!

Hi Angelina.
Never seen on of these live before, and the clarity on this makes it look that way. This is a really good composition, and the angle the bird is on helps with that.
Good notes too.
Hope your week is going good so far.
