Gray Hairstreak
Strymon melinus

Males perch all afternoon on small trees and shrubs to seek receptive females. (kinda like some guys I know who hang out in singles bars. ha ha) Eggs are laid singly on flowers of host plant. Young caterpillars feed on flowers and fruits; older ones may eat leaves. Chrysalids hibernate.

#1 I love it...#2 I wanna use it...#3...I am sorry to have been so remiss in my critiques...not just for you...but for all...my days are getting much busier. If it paid that would be nice:-) It does not however so somehow I must have to budget better...A fine image and I am so glad you post a couple days in a row...You are most needed. Tejas is one of my favorite states to spell in Spanish:-)

I've always loved the bokeh on the 40-150. Nice even light here Angy. A tad blurry and noisey but otherwise a fine image.

Hi Angelina

I am currently in Canada - about 100 miles east of Vancouver.

A great shot - nice composition with lovely detail and colour. The isolation from the BG is really good.

James

Please let me know how you told the Gray Hairstreak to stay on the flower, the way you want him to be pictured. Some times I think you know some magic to create the photographs ;-< . A great shot and composition. Thanks .

Hello Angy,

good pose of it in total sharpness, good colour and details

Hi Angy,

I don't think I have ever seen a grey butterfly! It is posing beautifully on the daisy (?). Such pretty soft colors and wonderful on the white petals. I love the background.

Hola Angelina.
Muy hermosa la foto que aqui nos presentas. Tiene un muy agradable color en toda la imagen, y es tambien de muy buen gusto la distancia y el angulo de la presentacion. Muy artisitca.
Saludos Angelina.
Your friend
Luis52.

You manage to extract the beauty from ordinary subjects that folks walk by every day without giving it another thought. It is photos like these that make me pay attention to my own surroundings.

This is one simple moment, yet the colors are rich, the DOF is perfect, and the subject so simple, yet complex. You drew a bead on the butterfly and caught everything, including the bit of fuzz on the edge of the wings. Excellent job, my friend.

A very simple yet powerful image, Angy!
A lovely butterfly.
The little "tails" on its wings are a nice characteristic :-)
Excellent sharpness and good detail.
Perfect DOF and an excellent OOF BG.
Spot-on exposure and natural colours.
Great to see another post from you :-)

Thanks!

I like little butterflies like this one, they are so beautiful, but one must take the time to observe them up close.
It goes along with the old adage, sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses.
Excellent detail and colour.
