Between the lens and body I also had attached the TC14E converter.

Except for adding smart unsharp mask sett at lensblur in photoshop CS2, I did not edit this image.
I'm telling you this because after I did show this image to other people, most of them thought I did add the third, lower, eagle afterwards.

This is some kind of behavior between eagles one can see more often.
The upper one, who is a male, altough it's quite hard to see at a small image like this, has a piece of fish in his tallon and the two who do persue the male are females.

The male is suppose to catch the fish and after that has to hand it over in mid air to the female eagle.
Most of the time this does happen during or just before mating season starts.

I did take this shot early morning, just after sunrise, standing on the beach of Katchemak Bay, and altough I know it further has nothing to do with this image, I just want to tell you that it was bloody :) cold that morning with temperature of -25 degrees Celcius and around 25 miles wind, wich together gave a windchill reading of minus 34 degrees celcius.........Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........And I was very glad to be in a warm hotelroom again after being out there for 2 1/2 hours.

Warm regards, Harry

Hello Harry,
It was well worth tolerating the freezing conditions to get a shot like this of three White-headed Eagles frolicking in the air.
Excellent sharpness against a cold blue sky BG. Fine lighting and composition.
A beautiful and remarkable shot!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hello Harry!
Well, I have to say that my first opinion was the some: 3 pictures of the some specimen :)
But if really not (of course I belive ;>) this is a great documentary picture! It is not easy to catch such action using video camera and you did it with "normal" camera :) My congratulation and best greetings!

Hi Harry
A few days ago I asked: can you present us anything better? OK I stop asking silly questions...
It is simply amazing!
Quite a few jpeg artefacts but that's only problem at TN.

Hallo Harry,

Wat een schitterend plaatje heb jij ons voorgeschoteld. Mijn eerste reactie was toen ik de thumbnail zag: Dat zijn 3 foto's aan elkaar gemonteerd. Nou mijn complimenten hoor. Glas en glashelder. Mooie natuurlijke kleuren. Jouw POV was, ondanks de kou PRIMA. Groeten Bob

Exelente foto uma qualidade espetácular muito boa, meus parabéns.

Stunning pic Harry!
I also thought this was three exposures in one. The fact that it's not makes it priceless.
The sky is a fantastic blue which sets of the eagles well, you've exposed them well even though they are dark and the sun looks to be bright.
Excellent freezing of the action. Details are good, I wonder though if your sharpening has caused some mild pixelation around the edge of the birds or is this due to compression? Either way it's only a minor point and this is still a mighty fine photo.
I can't wait to finish my teaching course and get out and use the 70-200vr properly!

What an interesting behavior to turn over the fish to female (now I think she should cook it). This is a stunning photo with outstanding focus and exposure. It is a dramatic composition and most beautiful blue sky. It was, in my opinion, a once-in-the-lifetime shot and well worth braving the cold. Congratulations! A favorite!

Hello Harry,
Great portrait, nice POV capture this impressive image, natural colors, good composition, TFS.
Best regards/Lawhill

You were in the right place at the right time, even though it was very very cold. I can't actually image those sorts of temperatures. Anyway, the image is just fantastic and you explanation of what is happening is wonderful too. The Eagle's look just superb against the glorious blue of the sky. An incredibly beautiful capture, of a wonderful moment in time, congratulations.
