I think your composition in this shot is very good. I like the angles and the way the big sky and clouds recede into the distance at the point where the angles meet. The great contrasts in this scene would be impossible for any camera to expose correctly without filters of some kind. When I am faced with this kind of situation I use a graduated neutral density filter to even out the exposure a bit, or I take more than one shot. I take one exposed for the sky and another for the land and combine the two on the computer. With this image I would crop out the clouds with the most burn-out and then lighten the land with an adjustment layer. See workshop.
