[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At first I thought this was a young Curve Billed Thrasher. Because of it's behavior and the sound of its call I judged it to be the similar looking Bendire's Thrasher. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Bendire's Thrasher

The Bendire's Thrasher is a robin-sized bird that is grayish-brown and has yellow eyes. It is similar to a young Curve-billed Thrasher with a short bill, but smaller, with a shorter tail and more triangular spots on its breast. The song of the Bendire's Thrasher is a clear, melodious warble with some repetition, and continuing at length. Its call is a lowchuck. This thrasher flies from bush to bush, whereas other desert thrashers almost never fly. However, it does most of its feeding on the ground.

The Bendire's Thrasher spends much of its time on the ground searching and digging for food. It builds a compact nest in almost any of the shrubby vegetation found within its habitat, usually 3 to 10 feet above the ground.

The Bendire's Thrasher breeds in southeastern California, southern Nevada, Arizona and western New Mexico. It winters from southern Arizona southward. It prefers desert scrub habitats.

Hello Jane,
I see the birds are back at their favorite perching tree. This particular one looks like he is really enjoying the sunshine while sitting high up on his throne. Excellent detail and beautiful coloration.
We are a ways off from getting any leaves on our trees, but I have seen some budding getting started. Hope all is well with you guys down there and am looking forward to viewing more of your photos.
Ron

Hello Jane,
The colouration and only slightly curved bill say that you are right in your ID.
A fine capture of a Bendire's Thrasher. The features are well shown with fine sharpness and natural colours from a nice lateral POV on the top of the oak branch with the blue sky providing a fine BG.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan
