Jane, you have made the best of the passing visitor taking shelter on a cactus. It is a lovely picture.
Some expert should ID this bird for you.

I think you have posted this bird before. The real expert is cuckooroller (Steve Pryor), but I think it is a Northern Mockingbird.
Beautiful photo in good sharpness and nice natural colours.

A fine capture of a species of bird unknown to me, though I think that Peter is on the right track in that it may be some form of Mockingbird.
Despite the difficult lighting the features are well seen with excellent sharpness.
I note that the upper mandible is curved. This can either indicate an an escaped captive bird that has not been able to use its bill in the normnal way, or it might be characteristic of the species, like some of the Hawaian birds that have become naturalised in mainland USA.
Nice to see your post again,

Hello Jane, nice to hear from you again.
I have been searching the web and my guide books for the last two hours. I have to say it resembles a mocking bird more then any other bird I have researched. I did find out that there are quite a few different types of mocking birds, but no one type seemed to have all the characteristics that your photo shows.
Sometimes just a photo isn't enough to positively identify a species. You know what you actually saw and how it looked while inflight etc.., which makes all the differance in true identification.
