A short trip into my archives for this fond memory. I hope you won't mind sharing it for all that it is an older image.

This is the southern edge of the Piedras Blancas about 7 1/2 miles north of San Simeon along California's scenic Highway One. It is almost exactly half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Rugged and forbidding, it is also the place that a wonderful great Elephant Seal colony chooses to use as their rookery.

I posted a couple of far-less-than-perfect images of the elephant seals just over a year ago for those who care to go back four pages in my gallery.

Tech: levels, sharpen, crop to straighten horizon, resize to TN specs, sharpen by 50%

Thanks for your visits and have another wonderful day

Hello Silke,

happy to see our today's postings next to each other, both showing edges of water from rather distant elevations and parts of the world.

There are powerful contrasts and yet a very pleasant mild light in your wintertime seascape. The pleasantly warm hues of the rocks are perfectly well counterbalanced by the cool waters. A very intense presentation. I can smell the ocean, and hear the splashes of waves.

Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

Hello Silke

I really like the lighting for this shot. The warmth of the light illuminates the rugged and craggy shoreline well.A very good POV .Very nice colour saturation.TFS

Truly impressive capture of this very elemental nature, Silke.
The dark rock shapes in the foreground add great beauty to the composition.
TFS and regards.

Well composed frame with good color, exposure, and details Silke.
Your former posts of the seals may not be perfect, but they were well worth posting.
They are special to you, and that's what matters most..
Well done & have a Great Weekend!
Howard

Hi Silke,
Beautiful image if this natural beach. It can be a rugged beach, but this is the only opportunity for Elephant Seals.
Beautiful colours and great composition.

Great shot - wonderful curve to the shoreline and great foreground object to draw the eye into the photo. Lovely!

Hi Silke,
This photo brings back many memories of when I did the Hwy 101 & 1 thing on a motorcycle many years ago...Looks a little like Morrow Point...Very well captured...

Hi there,
I am finally back and semi-recovered from my jet lag, so I hope to catch up on some of the beautiful shots I have missed in the past month. : 0
Your photo here brings back great memories.
I have spent quite a bit of time there visiting the elephant seals.
That central coast of California is indeed a beautiful place, and your shot captured the dramatic coastline very well. Beautiful light and colors.

Hi Silke,

This is a beautiful California seascape! A wonderful composition showing the rocks, the land, the water with the waves and the nice sky. Lovely natural colors and a delight to see.
