Flower of the Sea
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|The 'Flower of the Sea' or more commonly known as a sea anemone is a stinging polyp that attaches itself to rocks and coral and then waits for its' prey. It injects a paralyzing neurotoxin and then guides its' prey into its' mouth by its' tentacles. The mouth is in the center and is surrounded by the tentacles. Their bodies are composed of an adhesive pedal disc(a foot) and a cylindrical body. |
Sea anemones are invertebrates.
There are over 1,000 species and they come in a vast array of colors. They can be as small as one half inch and can also be as large as six ft. across. They have a symbiotic relationship with green algae in which the sea anemone provides a safe harbor and sunlight for the algae in exchange for oxygen and sugar.
I added contrast to my picture and a bit of saturation. I also cropped it a bit but included some of the surrounding areas in the tidepool to add more interest. All comments and critiques are welcomed.

For me this kind of marine creatures look so exotic and exciting. This anemone and its surrounding just look amazing. Lovely presentation, I wonder if the colors are quite like in nature.

What a beautiful underwater image filled with interesting critters and contrasting colors. I have only seen such sights in the wild once, and that was while snorkeling in Hawaii.
Love the sharp focus fine exposure you managed to capture. I do believe the color is almost exactly as you seen it. I did a WS and checed the white balance, the slight differance was hardly noticable. Super job!!
