First of all i would like to publicly apologize to all of you that i've wrote something like this: "No time now...be back with a proper critique later" these past few weeks!
It's been a very very busy period for me at work, but i still wanted to say something nice and as precise as possible about all your lovely shots...but unfortunately the day has only 24 hours :(

Secondly, now that i'm pretty much done with all the work, i'll be missing from here for about 5-6 days...i'm going in Slovakia for a vacation :) (and i'm going to try some landscapes...maybe).

Anyway, i decided to post something different today. I believe you've seen loads of notes about these ducks, so i'm going to approach this from a different angle again :)

To me, it seems that in this shot the farther one is drafting behind the first one...just like cars or bikes to when they want to overtake...and that's how my mind slipped to that.

So here's something about drafting:
Drafting, or slipstreaming, is a technique in sports racing where competitors align in a close group in order to reduce the overall effect of drag or fluid resistance of the group. Especially when high speeds are involved, drafting can significantly reduce the average energy expenditure required to maintain a certain speed.

Drafting is usually to reduce wind resistance and is seen most commonly in bicycle racing, car racing, and speedskating though is occasionally used even in running. Some forms of triathlon allow drafting. Fluid resistance can also mean water resistance, however, and so drafting is sometimes seen in swimming as well, particularly in "open-water" swim events where competitors are not separated into distinct lanes.

Drafting in nature:
Cooperative fluid dynamics techniques like drafting are found in nature, as well. Flocks of geese and some other birds fly in a V formation that is believed to improve overall fluid dynamics, though not in the straightforward fashion of car racing, which involves close positioning in single file. Goose flocking is not fully understood, but probably involves the recovery of energy from vortices created by the leading birds' wingtips (see wingtip vortices). (For this reason, it may not meet some people's definition of drafting).

Other animals have been observed to use true drafting behavior reminiscent of auto racing or cycling. Lobsters, for example, are known to migrate in close single-file formation "lobster trains", sometimes for hundreds of miles.

Lovely shot and not easy to get the correct exposure with all that reflecting light.
Good job on focus too.
Nice composition.

Hello Horia,
Quite an unusual picture as for you :-)
I like very much the composition but best of all I like the colours and light on the water surface.
Cool shot my friend!
And interesting note too......
Best greetings,
Michal

Hi Horia,
You should not apologize for the way you had to critique recently. I am always glad to see you stop by, even for the such a brief moment. At one time or another work can consume all your time. I get frustrated that I cannot get out more to take new photos due to work and other things that take up so much of my time.

I like the POV on this shot. good DOF keeps them sharp, and the low light stil has subtle yet beautiful colors. The reflecions and ripples in the water are excellent.
Scott

Hi Horia,
This week seems to have been complicated for some of us...
I like this frontal POV capture and the action and movement done by the generated waves.
Wish you a great time in Slovakia and a lot of great subjects to shoot at there.
Best regards,
JM

Very nice pov and those ripples are great. I like your informative note and observation. Have a nice trip.

Love the POV. I just love reflections and water in motion, so a shot like this ticks a lot of boxes for me, not to mention the fact that it includes wildlife, too. TFS

Ricardo

The composition is truly pleasant and the sharpness very good.
Maybe with what I would not agree it is with the illumination or the white balance, but ignoring the conditions of the capture, obviously.
I wish you one excellent vacations my friend and until your return!.
Ricardo

The vertical works well for your duet :)
I will detail later Horia..

Hi Horia

It seems like quite a few of us are lacking time. Niek (Suntoucher) has written something similar on his post and I am busy with work as well. I am glad you are still finding the time to take the picture.

Lovely composition in this one but I also love the light and ripples on the water

TFS

Karan

first off, I love the title! As it does indeed appear that they are indeed drafting! Secondly its a great shot, love the ducks close up and seeing the water movements and reflections..nicely done. TFS

thanks for your commments on my photo "Looking for Lunch" :o)

Hello Horia,
Understanding the dynamics of Drafting may be beyond my limited IQ, frankly :-).
However, I can and am enjoying and admiring this picture of two ducks swimming in a formation of sorts :-).
I like the play of light on the surface of water creating a lovely effect around the subjects.
Thanks and take care.
Ram

Hi Horia,
let me start with wishing you a great vacation in Slovakia, and all the luck and fun with landscape photography. Just remember this, when it feels good, it is good.

Now the photo. A wonderful drafting moment captured with great light. I just love all the golden shapes and circles created by the sun on the water.

TFS,
Niek

Hi Horia

Firstly, very interesting notes about 'drafting' or 'slipstreaming'. Secondly, a great capture of this lovely scene clearly showing this phenomena.

I just like the mood created by the lighting and the reflections on the water surface. The darkish surface standing in great contrast to the visible streaks of light. This was enhanced by the V shaped ripples emanating from the swimming motion and further movement of the ducks. The DOF working range you attained from your S2 ensured crisp details all the way from the foreground to the very rear area of the shot.

Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

PS. Don't worry apologising about lack of wanted time. We all experience that and we do what we can when we can. See you around when you have time or after your vacation.

Hi Horia,
You did a good job!!
This photo is very impressive to me, specially, reflecting light on the water.
Excellent shot with sharp details and beautiful colours, the composition is also great.
Regards and TFS,
Kevin

Good morning Horia,
The timing of your photo is excellent in that the second duck lies right on the diagonal, very pleasing composition. Excellent sharpness and exposure considering the difficulty with motion and reflection. Well done.
Best wishes,
