I took the day off work and my sister and I went hiking up Mt. Adams (August 05) to Lookinglass Lake. We had been hiking for hours when we rounded a corner to see these bright blue flowers. She identified them as (I think she must be right):

King's-scepter gentian: Scientific Name: Gentiana sceptrum

The upright stems of this gentian are 1-2 or more ft. tall and occur in clumps. Leaves are opposite. Usually several showy, bright blue, tubular flowers top the stem. The petals are often green-streaked or mottled.

They are native to the United States and grow on the Western coastal states.

Hi Julie,
I love this flowers. Very pleasant deep blue. I don't see any technical comments I could do, so only thing left is the smiley.

Regards, Petru

Hello Julie!
Very nice close up.Lighting,colors,POV,3D effect,POV,framing and composition are excellent.

HI Julie, I've missed you and Lori, good to see you again. So this is a wild Gentian, amazing colours. Wonderful find. I love the spots on teh blue petals, quite unusual.
Well done, thank you

Wow Julie, this one turned out so much better than my version. I'd say almost perfect, well since I can't think of anything to improve on it...okay it's PERFECT! I love how bright the blue turned out and how well it shows off the greenish polka dots! Super!
