[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have lost track of how many times I have tried to photograph one of these little guys and ether ends up flying off. They never let me get within 25 yards or so and never sit still for more then a couple secants. Or they just weren't in focus. Well it finally happened today at the Refuge. This little guy let me get right up close and personal and stayed there for about 5 minutes. I really like the colors and patterns in the heads of the American Kestrel. Very cool bird. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful Tom, congrats!

That was a sweet stroke of luck Tom. It is a lovely pose and wonderful toning colors throughout the image.

We didn't make it to the refuge today. We thought it was just a tad too cold. We'll make it later in the week.

Hello Tom
This is a top quality image and I think this kestrel liked to pose for you. All is perfect in this photo.

Hi Tom
there are so many European Common kestrels on TN and so few good American ones that these little guys must indeed be very shy.
this one is great with perfect compo and wonderful bg

Beautiful picture in so many ways. The little bird is looking at you as if to say, "This gift's for you!"
I find the perch interesting also. Is that the top of a Mullen?
A comment on it could have improved the note, but the shot is as perfect as it gets. Congratulations! Very nice.
ps life is so busy I rarely login or even peep any more, but this shot is really special so I just had to sign in and leave my 2cents.

Hello Tom,
Your right about them never sitting still for a photo. You are very fortunate to have found one that likes it's picture taken.
This is a great shot, full of detail and beautiful natural colors. Love the way he decided to pose for you on this vertical stem, he looks tall and proud. Super focus and exposure! Great job!!

Hi Tom!

Congratulations for this superb picture. Your patience finally has allowed you to take this magnificent bird in such a fine pose. I'm also delighted by the unity and the delicateness of the colour tones. Moreover, the lighting is superb!

Kind regards

hello Tom

excellent photo of the American Kestrel with that beautiful eye-contact,
they are one of the most fearful birds, i have only one photo from very far,
the American Kestrel never let me do the approach, i had to double the
zoom (from 300mm to 600mm) of my bridge camera to shot the photo,
the catch-light on his eye (of your photo) is rendering the photo more beautiful, TFS
