The Forest has Eyes!

Great camouflage demonstration of this great horned owl's cryptic coloration that the plumage displays. The head was turned in torward the tree and it pretty much looked like it was blending into the texture of the tree, making it almost impossible to spot. The owl eventually turned it's head with the yellow of the eyes betraying it's hidden presence.

Make: NIKON CORPORATION
Model: NIKON D7000
Software: Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Windows
Exposure Time: 1/200
F-Stop: f/6.3
ISO Speed Ratings: 800
Focal Length: 600 mm
Date Taken: 2012-02-13 15:28
Metering Mode: Center Weighted Average
Flash: Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode

Hand held pushing ISO 800 Seemed a bit of a challenge but worked out in the end. I like the results. This is a new way of approaching photography for me by including more environment at the same time showing an animal's ability of blending into it's environment.

Hello Paul,
Your photo shows an excellent examply of perfectly camouflaged plumage. This particular Owl would be almost impossible to see if it wasn't looking directly at the viewer.
Wonderful detail and beautiful natural coloration. Exposure is right on the money and vertical presentation works great in this instance. Well done!!
Ron

At first I just thought you had a nice tree shot. That would have got my vote. It's additionaly nice to see the Great Horned Owl. I really like the moss in the tree. The owl's eyes almost match it. A very Kool shot! TFS Trevor

Beautiful scene and impressive photo Paul! The composition, the lighting and the sharpness are excellent!

Hei Dude,

Hello Paul, Well this is quite a splendid new approach to a photograph, by way of including more habitat rather than a close up of the owl. Pushing the ISO was a gamble but ended up really rendering a sharp and detailed photo with strong light quality.
Your photo gallery is amazing . Very inspiring for someone like me.
TFS,
Karen

a fantastic picture of animal camouflage.
how you spot it? amazing!
superb picture quality, nice ambiance also.
best wishes,
samiran

Dear Paul,
A very good example of camouflage for my theme "Camouflage" it is amazing you were able to focus on the owl and choose the right exposure, as the animal virtually disappears/ blends into the tree.

Thanks for sharing,
