[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The colors of this duck captivated me, and if it is a bit lopsided, it's because it was taken from inside a boat. I tried to make sure it was even, but when I leaned, the boat began to tip, so I moved my arms only. (I gotta learn this boat business...)

I also have him with some sort of fish, but first I'd like to get an identification on him.

I had the ISO at 400, but because of the bright sun, I moved it back 1 and a half stops. It seemed to help - I wanted to avoid both the photo from being both too dark and too hot. I tried several different methods, and ended up liking this one the best - I think perhaps because it looks a little artistic and is different from my usual? I'm trying new things. The more I know my camera, the better I will get.

Does anybody know what sort of waterfowl this is?

Hello Kathy,
The focus is good and you used the Grebe's reflection very well in your composition.

It is a red-necked grebe. Not an easy bird to photograph. I think I would have cropped it a little tighter, but the wider view does look good on this page. Gary

Hello Kathy
Its a form of grebe without doubt...What I like most is your experimentation in exposure settings...The results are fantastic with a perfectly exposed picture...Absolutely brilliant..Keep experimenting..It really is working out brilliantly.
Best Regards
Paul

Hi Kathy,
Red-necked Grebe here in the Old World looks like this. Very good capture with good composition, sharp details and nice colours.

Hi Kathy , wow I just love the greens in the water , they contrast with the bird and reflection very nicely , good composition and details as well , great photo , TFS :-)

I am pretty sure Nick got it right off. I have only seen the Grebe here on TN and NEVER near here...which is where you are...well only a few blocks away. You do have some secret locations you go to. Keep them. I have some too and it makes it fun. I think other TN'ers would certainly fall in love with our place here nearby Cheney, Kathy,.. It is a place for nature to live and love. Medical Lake is a fine place for those who do not know. I have a few images from there when Jane is able to take rides...only a 15 minute shot but she hurts in the car even with medications....and it is breaking me apart...

Hi, Kathy, again.
Wonderful shot with great rich colours, razor sharpness of the bird image and superb reproduction of the nicely looking water surface. I like impressive 3D-effect, strong horizontal cropping and precise exposure of the image. Well done and kind regards.
