Western larches are the showy paradox of Inland Northwest forests. Each fall, the trees outshine other conifers with a short-lived burst of gold-hued beauty. At Sherman Pass in the Colville National Forest, larch-dominated hillsides attract tourists from as far away as Seattle. The color extends to the forest floor, where wildlife and people trek through a glowing dusting of fallen needles. Why do larches turn color and shed their needles, when most cone-bearing trees keep theirs? Even tree experts don’t have definitive answers

This image is one of only a couple I took of these trees near my cabin. Sorry about the chimney. I wasn't thinking of TN nor had I heard of it when I shot this. I have cropped out most of the cabin next to me, but smoke got in my eyes....He! Lyrics to an old old song...

now i am writing for the second time....!!!!
I dont get it.
Nice autumn picture and plesant note with the old song... Smoke gets in your eyes but I think smoke gets in your lung.
Fine autumn colours, good pov and sharpness.

Hello Bob,
Excellent image my friend we have patches of Larch in our mountain as well. Usual they are quite high on the gentle mountain sides. They help and that special touch of colour in the fall.

Are you sure that isn't an old moonshine still of yours!! Ha! Ha! just pulling your leg!!
Actually the photo shows some attractive fall foliage with beautiful contrasting colors of green and amber hues. I'll bet you made some great memories from the past while staying at your cabin in the woods.

The trees and the branches in the foreground are hrlping to frame the scene. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the trees in the background. The light is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Bob.
I would love to have autumn all year round but too bad, we don't have that here. The smell of the autumn is refreshing and I can just sit outside looking at those colorful leaves all day.
