After bidding farewell to Mono Lake (previous 4 posts) we continue our journey down the eastern side of California's Sierra Nevada to the town of Bishop. Bishop lies at the northern end of the Owens Valley. It was the home of Galen Rowell, and his wife Barbara, before their untimely death at the Eastern Sierra Regional Airport, coming home from conducting a photo workshop in Alaska. His Mountain Light Gallery, in Bishop, is filled with large scale prints, posters, books and inspiration. Just for fun I tried to enhance this and some other Bishop area photos, (a somewhat feeble attempt,) to emulate some of the amazing lighting effects Galen was able to capture on film. You can see some of his work here as well as on many web sites. Check out the posters of the four seasons.

This shot was taken quite early in the morning from our campsite just east of the town of Bishop. The mountains are the Sierra Nevada.

Hi Evelyn

A very well composed shot - contrasting movement provided by the bare trees and mountains. Great light on the mountain.

Hi Evelynn,
this is the sort of image I'm lucky to get to see many times during the year. There is something so wonderful about how the sunrise plays upon mountain tops in the morning what with all the hues of orange, red and even pinks.Everyday is not the same day as dust and humidity flavor the colours one sees.Speaking of flavor this picture looks delicious with great colour ,details and overall point of view, well done and thank you sharing. Wow, Evelynn.
That really looks like a painting!
What amazing light and colors.
Fantastic light and shadows.
TFS. : )

Hi Evelynn,
I hate keeping backed up on my critique on your photos. So the next several minutes are not spend on my work, but on your photos.

The mood captured in this photo is very beautiful, the soft warm light of the mountains with the mysterious colors in the FG make for great drama. As Rob wrote, it reminds me of a painting. I am not sure what kind of PP you did to the bottom half of the photo, but I like it.
TFS,
Niek

P.S. I am not able to find the poster of the four seasons from Galen.

Another cracking shot and this time the wider view helps build the composition. Including the trees was a good decision and adds depth to the scene. Excellent work..

Hi Evelynn,
Just came back from travel, and trying to catch up with TN&TE. What a tribute to Galen! He has been such a great inspiration for me-not just the photography, but also for his excellent writing skills. He was a uniquely talented person, whose shoes can never be filled. Still can't get over his loss. You have captured the spirit of his backyard so well here.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Evelynn your work is outstanding, thankyou for sharing your talents.
