This is another of many butterfly photos I have taken the past few days. I walked down to the lake and saw that a few wildflowers were blooming in a meadow by the lake. Skies were overcast, but there were minutes of good light. However it was windy again. I have not yet identified the wildflower, but the butterfly is an Orange Sulphur.

Orange Sulphur (Colias eurytheme)

Wing span: 1 3/8 to 2 3/4 inches

open areas, especially clover and alfalfa fields, meadows, mowed fields, road edges, vacant lots

Adult food:
nectar of: aster, Aster; clover, Trifolium; dandelion, Taraxacum; dogwood, Cornus; goldenrod, Solidago; milkweed, Asclepias; thistle, Cirsium

Caterpillar hosts plants:
leaves of plants in the Leguminosae family including: alfalfa, Medicago; indigo, Baptisia; pea, Pisum; vetch, Vicia; white clover, Trifolium; white sweet clover, Melilotus

females lay eggs singly on top of leaves, males patrol for females, hibernates as chrysalis, one of the most widespread and common butterflies in North America

Hello Ken

Another very beautiful butterfly macro from you!
I really like the composition you managed here with the diagonal displacement of the subject.
The BG is very beautifully blurred and it makes the butterfly and flower stand out nicely, while the details on the subject are crispy clear. Lovely, well saturated colors, too.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Ken.
Your butterfly series is simply amazing as well as this picture. Inclined composition, beautiful flowers and amazingly reproduced butterfly create a very nice composition. Sharpness of the main subject, DOF and BG are great too. My compliments and best regards.

Hola Ken
Preciosa composición, con preciosa mariposa, un fondo de lujo que hace que contraste perctamente con la flor y la mariposa.
Mis felicitaciones.
Un saludo

Hi Ken

A lovely shot of this beautiful little butterfly to add to your already brilliant series of butterflies.

Since I already addressed a number of aspects in the workshop and the forum dealing with this shot I am not going to repeat all that stuff again. Suffice to say you have a well captured image with excellent composition. I love the angle of the flower and the insect running through the shot and the butterfly's proboscis deeply imbedded in the flower while it's feasting on the nectar. The exposure was very well managed and great details are visible on the subject and on the flower. With a little additional PP work this shot can come to its full potential. I hope you like the workshop.

Very well done and TFS.
