Collage of different dragonflies

The life cycle of the dragonfly, from egg to death of adult, varies from six months to as much as six or seven years. Female dragonflies lay eggs in or near water, often in or on floating or emergent plants. Most of the life cycle is spent in the larval (naiad, aka nymph) form, beneath the water surface, using internal gills to breathe, and catching other invertebrates or even vertebrates such as tadpoles and fish. In the adult (flying) stage, larger species of dragonfly, can live as long as four months
Dragonflies have excellent eyesight due to their eye structure. Their compound eyes have up to 30,000 facets, each of which is a separate light-sensing organ or ommatidium, arranged to give nearly a 360°Field of vision.
It was recently discovered that dragonflies employ a particular optical illusion, termed motion camouflage to stalk other insects that invade their territory. The research suggests that a dragonfly can move in such a way as to project itself as a stationary object while speedily attacking its victims. These findings illustrate for the first time how dragonflies use complex camouflaging techniques during aerial combat.

Hi Lawhill,
This is a nice collage of dragonflies and I know that was time consuming, but the finished product is nice. Did you consider putting the name of each dragonfly inside it's frame in a small font? Nice presentation either way.

Hi Lawhill,

A wonderful collage of these assorted dragonflies. The four are very different and make a nice presentation. Each picture is sharp and clear with lovely colors. I especially like the blue one. Nice job!

Another good use of this type of presentation. A muted rainbow of color, yet full of things to see. Certainly an educational presentation cover of some sort. There are many good uses for this type of picture. You have taken the simple dragonfly shot and converted it!

Hello Lawhill, very good collage, beautiful capture, excellent macro my friend, thanks for sharing your art... well done

How generous of you to show four magnificent dragonflies within a single frame, Lawhill! Goes to prove you must be having plenty of them around you to shoot at will.
All the four specimens within the frame are exotic and beautiful. Together, they make a lovely collage.
TFS and regards.
