Dedicated to LordPotty, the Master of the Underground :-)

MOLERATS, more precisely naked molerats (Heterocephalus glaber) are perhaps some of the most bizzare and freakish creatures to be observed. If not to consider that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they might just be the world's ugliest animals and I do relise the gravity of my words but it is easy to see: they have large oversized protrusive incisives, patches of chaotic hairs over a naked pinkish hanging oversized skin on a body shaped similar to that of an aborted rat embrio. They live in large underground colonies and here is a glimpse of that.
Sorry if I was too harsh on the poor buggers...

But isn't that the beauty of nature? That something so beautiful can come of something so ugly? The Swan, baby coots (!) even most babies look like Winston Churchill at birth, apart from mine of course (hehe).
I'm personally a great believer in beauty being skin deep so have to disagree with you, but you have captured a great shot, brilliant detail for something so small. Are they against glass?
Thank you for sharing this interesting post, and funny note!

Halo Radu!
Just superb photo! Great POV and great idea. Thank you very much!

Its a wicked photo Radu, but how on earth did you get it?You haven't got one of those surgical camera thingys for looking up peoples bottoms and stuff?
Oh yeah...through glass...right.
We have nothing like this in New Zealand.
We actually have only 2 native mammals, both bats, and one of them, instead of flying, just scrambles around on the ground all night.Very strange.
Good post anyway...Thanks.

Good shot, great details and POV.
Well done.

I remember those weird creatures from few documentaries which I saw on Discovery Channel. Very interesting but not cute for sure :-) On your pictures they're looks relaxed and happy.

How could you even consider such words - the first rat, with his hand on his heart, seems to be saying to you!
I know these guys well from photographs and video material, and they ARE more than disgusting, Very nice catch, great, moody lighting, and those horrible little hands . . . touching, probing, feeling . .

Fantastic. I like it! Very well done.

Looks like something out of a Stephen King thriller, but that too is reality. It wasn't so bad for me until I read Gert's last line...
Good image Radu, one I will try to forget. TFS

Very unusual work. I think you did a great job to capture the "freakshow" look here. Well done.

It looks like exhibit in biology class. You know formaline jar with sickening things inside.

But this is probably one of the most interesting... and weird photos on TN.
I don't know why I'm saying this, but I like it ;)

Hi Radu,
I found your photo when searching for bizarre animals or plants for my new group "nature's oddities"

Thanks for sharing, your photo made me think of 'Raphael's paintings I.e . Lots of flesh :-)
