Cow Vetch....It is but a memory, as I have said. The "garden" of wildflowers and weeds is gone. So many past by and didn't notice. Now all they see is trash and mowed tall dry grasses. Yet I have these small pictures for my memory book. A summer exploring a field of weeds. Not exactly the same thing as bucking wood for a winter in the wilderness. Up there I would normally spend summers cutting and bucking for the coming winter. In addition I had a rather large garden, for one who had no running water and irrigated by slow ram pump and hand carrying from a creek. So my summers were work filled and busy. Busy down here was finding what is left of nature in the city. A weed bed growing in a large lot was a heaven/haven for me. I'm not sure of the tendency to cut things down and cement over ground and grasses. It makes me wonder where we went wrong. Cow Vetch is known around the world. Here it is posed in a natural setting of nice dried grasses of many variety, along with other leafy greens whose stems are only hazy in the background.

Family: Pea (Fabaceae)
Habitat: fields and roadsides
Height: 2 to 3 feet
Flower size: 1/2 inch long in long racemes
Flower color: blue-purple
Flowering time: May to August
Origin: Eurasia

Hi Bob,
I know weeds are vermin to gardeners but some are still beautiful.
Sharp with vivid colours.
Yet again, a great note.
Well done,

I agree with Joey...they are beautiful despite the reputation as vermin.

Wonderful shot. Again you created that feel of a memory...I feel as though cow vetch played some part in my childhood. :)

Hi Bob. All flowers start from weeds. the flowers on some of the weeds are more beautiful than that of cultivated plants. a colourful picture you have posted. well done TFS . great notes again thanks.

hello bob,
very correct ,weeds too could be beautiful, nice capture, well composed shot, fine pov,
tfs & regards

Hello Bob,
The tiny little flower is most attractive, as it appears in shining blue!
I like the narrow DOF, creating an almost abstract blurry background...
Small things are beautiful too!

Hello Bob,
Interesting point of view. I like to have the feeling to be in the middle of plants and flowers. Nice colour-combination too. Interesting and very personal note too.
Best regards

Hello Bob.
I guess that's one of the beauties of photography. When the physical subject is gone we have our photographs to preserve the moment and the memory. I spent this summer capturing the wildflowers here in my 'new home'. Most of them are gone now also but I have some special shots in my archive. A very beautiful capture. Great light and colour. Lovely sharpness and DOF. Well done once again.
Best regards, Steve.

The out of focus background is truly lovely in this shot Bob. The sharpness and saturation of the purple flower in front creates a nice contrast.

Hi Chief,
After few days off from the system due to sickness (high BP) I am back to watch the little beauties clicked by you and preferred to push my BP high again (:->). They are simple and sweet and shy like Blood Pressure, nobody knows when it comes, put a jolt and moves away; little clumsy but well composed.

It might just be a weed, but it really stands out with all those brownish grasses surrounding it. I love the color saturation and the bright glow of the sun, well done.
