[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Robber Flies I'm used to seeing are gray with a straight back, but this one is Asilidae Holcocephala, I believe.

No less an impressive predator. This is a successful formula that has worked for millennia. These are found preserved in amber, fossilized and shale. I'm glad they don't have an appetite for us humans.

This one swooped in and landed under the leaves of the Confederate Rose and let me take a number of photos. I have some from the front too. I'll post one of those later.

Hope you enjoy!

Hello Reid,
Really brilliant macro of this Robber Fly showing very sharp details and fine colours. I like the POV and the soft background makes it stand out really well.
TFS and regards, Ulla

hello reid,

tfs & regards

wow..This is starting to look textbook correct. Good notes as well...That lens kit deal is working fine. Tricky thing to get down. Had a friend who took Medical photography at Rochester in the 70's. He learned this trade from scratch. Your doing it well with a hands on.

Hello Reid;

A precious(beautiful) photo in all the aspects, color, definition, POV, made good. Congratulations. Robber Fly does Flying Thief want to say? I do not find equivalent translation. For my this insect it is a mosquito of an indeteminado kind(genre) that I do not know.
Cordial greeting friend.

Good one! Good detail for ISO 800. Maybe a little be on the heavy side what pp is concerned - the fading into the green looks a little unnatural - aside from that good work, Reid! Cheers, Klaus
