But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

Appearances deceive — things are not what they seem — and we're obliged to measure our fears.

As summer ends and autumn comes, the days get shorter and shorter. This is how the trees "know" to begin getting ready for winter.

During winter, there is not enough light or water for photosynthesis. The trees will rest, and live off the food they stored during the summer. They begin to shut down their food-making factories. The green chlorophyll disappears from the leaves. As the bright green fades away, we begin to see yellow and orange colors. Small amounts of these colors have been in the leaves all along. We just can't see them in the summer, because they are covered up by the green chlorophyll.

The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mostly in the fall. In some trees, like maples, glucose is trapped in the leaves after photosynthesis stops. Sunlight and the cool nights of autumn cause the leaves turn this glucose into a red color. The brown color of trees like oaks is made from wastes left in the leaves.

Hi Bob,
Beautiful work on the sephia conversion. It brought out the details in the leaf perfectly and created a wonderful abstract photo. I also like your idea if adding the colored version as well. The backlight from the sun has created a wonderful luminescense touch to the composition. What happened with the framing? Looks like part of the edges got merged.

Beautiful details. Wonderful how you used an inset to show us the color. Great shot - great info

Original imagen Bob. Buena idea reproducida también en color.
Excelente nota.
Saludos, JL.

Hi Bob,

You are so creative! We never know what your next post will be. It is amazing how the details show up in the sepia version of the leaf. Nice seeing it side by side with the autumn colored version. Fascinating notes.

Hi Bob,
what a great idea, and well executed too. Super fine detail...almost like an aereal view of a parched landscape..funny how nature repeats itself in different forms and on different scales..
