Info on the Roseate Skimmer

Although there is no shortage of these magnificently colored dragonflies, I have had much difficulty photographing them. I find it impossible to set the exposure correctly. The face always comes out dark while the abdomen is over-exposed. Also, the auto focus sensor seems oblivious to the colors. This one was kind enough to pose for a close-up. Perhaps it came to ask me where to find the Butterfly Lady(angybone) so she could repair the broken batten in it's wing. ;-)

You have such beeauutiful dragonflies where you live... yeah we have a few but none like this! Amazing colours.
+++ Great lighting to show off its colours. Sharp with good definition. Great POV. Decent DOF.
--- Too much space above the dragonfly but that is all :D
Well done Jim,
Joe

Hi Jim
Your dragonfly is very beautiful and shows a rich colour. I must say I've never seen this colour in a dragonfly before. At least he stood still long enough for this nice portrait. Details, colour and lighting are all great.

Hello Jim,
Splendid capture of this blue-eyed pink beauty! Amazing colours and fine focus on the eyes. I like its pose and the composition is excellent.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Wow! The last of the Romani traveling show! Or perhaps a Druid Priest among the Dragonfly world. All of the pictures I have seen over the last 6 months and not one close to this color. A fine, splendid picture and capture.
Bob

Hello Jim,
Great to see your dragonfly shots, both for their colors and the variety: the American dragonfly fauna must be pretty rich.
Great POV, sharpness and colors and an excellent composition against a natural blurred BG.
Well done and have a great weekend;
Ivan

Hi Jim,
Just acknowledging this wonderful shot. Superbly done. Wish I could write a few more words, pity my net problem does not allow that. Sorry.
TFS this awesome shot.

Hi Jim!
Very beautiful and amazing coloured dragonfly. The colours are just lovely and the sharpness and details very nice for watching.
I am a little surprised that the colour of male can be similar to young female - especially if we note that this is not yellow or brown but so vivid violet/pink.
Interesting presentation!
Best regards,
Radomir

Hi Jim.
