Hoar Frost ="Frozen dew that forms a white coating on a surface."

It really depends on when one sees this phenomenon whether or not it will be pleasing to the eye. Here in the wilderness as well as some outlying city areas this happens when there is a low ground fog and temperatures are very cold...and there is a time after the sun comes out before it melts, which is a most powerful time in photography. The world around us has changed. It becomes as if in a fairyland. In a dream...but it doesn't last long; the sun melts it quickly under the gaze whether it is cold or not...the ice isn't really that thick., And so again it is like a dream. We wake to a dream and forget it quickly. The more we think of it, the faster it disappears. So when taking a picture of a hoar frost or White Frost, one must be quickly ready...always a camera at your side or in your pocket...of course an exception would be sometimes to have no camera and simply enjoy the beauty.

All pictures were taken before or slightly after sun broke through, within eyesight of my front door... A blend of 3 cameras...the Leica, Fuji with Nikon Lens and Nikon with Sigma lens. All on auto-pilot.

Hello bob,

nice post with lovely notes i specially liked this part "an exception would be sometimes to have no camera and simply enjoy the beauty" .
we all who love photography have this problem, looking through the eyes of the camera and loosing the opportunity to enjoy it more, but then its all about our passion for photography.

We never had opportunity to see the snow fall and the melting by the sun, it doenst happen here at all,
combination of four excellent shots taken with three camreas,

well done mr bob shannon,

tfs & regards
pankaj

Ice! What a creative concept with this collection of shots.
Once again, you show us the world through the eyes of an artist. Thank you.

Hi Bob,
I truly appreciate this compilation and note.
Lovely images of the hoar frost and fine use of tech knowledge to unite them here. You have a wonderful depth of sight into the wonders of nature and ability to share your thoughts.
Thanks for sharing your fine work today.
Richard :-)

Hi Bob
Frost sure can be beautiful at times. I like the way you've shown different plant and the different look of the frost. I love the look of frost on both plants and animals, especially against a deep blue sky. It's very inspiring.

Another fine, broad spectrum of shots to create a whole. Very nice my friend, a sight we don't get here much on the coast due to the warming air from the nearby sea...i like it, alot. A good diversity of textures and form.
Have a great weekend,
Paul

Hi Bob
Nice presentation of hoar frost.
Yes that's really like a dreamland soon after the sun rises.
Every picture is well composed and exposed. I like especially this close-up of the branch in upper right picture.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Bob. What a great set of pictures. there are so clear and crisp in detail. good colours ans shapes. well done TFS. good notes too.
Nick..
You and your better 3/4 have a nice weekend.

I love these different views! I find them so fragile, yet pleasing to the eye. This is a wonderful series, yet so compact that one can view them all in an instant, though to take it in, I felt the need to study it for several minutes.

I love the fragile stems in the lower right corner the best. Lovely, just lovely.

Hello Bob

A beautiful and artistic montage of the effects of hoar frost.
I love the mornings when the sun illuminates the hoar frost and everything sparkles like millions of tiny diamonds.
It is always a shame when the temperature gets to that point where the frost melts away.
A very well balanced composition with 4 equally attractive shots, well focused with very good detail.
Well thought out and I feel with special consideration for those on TN not familiar with this phenomenon.

Hello Bob!

Excellent work! I don't like snow and frost but you show them in really arty way. Great collage, every picture is worth to be posting alone. Upper right is my favourite - it looks so fragile and unreal.

Hello Bob!
I was not present on TN for a longer period and now I see what I overlooked :)
Fantastic winter collage with great detais and interesting compositions. I like different points of view too. Anyway, I am waiting for some "warmer" picture soon ;)
