A carefully protected animal in the Santa Rosa Mountains National Monument, south of Coachella Valley this animal is the desert bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis nelsoni) a superb animal, hard to forget, regardless the fact that here encounters are quite common. This is probably one of the best looking and healthiest i've seen, also pretty young but very strong and fit as you can see from his magnificent stance, he embodies "ram perfection" : young, strong, muscular and butch; lets not forget the chipped left horn, likely a "battle scar" ...
Also I must admit luckily enough I spotted him in 90% shade which only added to the quality of this photo as everywhere else in open desert, the sun is beaming way too strong for great exposures...

Hi Radu, very tough looking beast. I love the tones and the nose just poking into the sunlight. It's a good composition but maybe a little less on the right and a little more on the left would have been good. Thanks for posting.
