Here we are standing 6 miles south of the British Columbia border with Washington State, in the wilderness location called the Okanogan Highlands. The camera is pointing west along the lower Kettle River Valley. I am at approximately 3000 feet in elevation on the side of Vulcan Mountain. It is an early afternoon sun. Open rangeland and grasses cover a few hundred areas. A small grow of Aspen and pine are in the lower right quadrant. The remainder are all granite mountains, which are rich with gold ore. I am only 5 miles from one of the largest gold ore mines in the Pacific NW owned by the Kinross corporation of Ontario Canada. Other valuable and radio-active mineral are also mined nearby. The operations do the very least of damage to the surrounding area. All environmental protective measures have been put into place and only a couple dozen people work directly at the mine, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of acres of forest, hills, mountains and streams. One could walk west into this picture and not see another person for the rest of their lives. With exception of one main 2 lane highway and a few very small roads, it is a straight shot up through British Columbia and the NW Territories to Alaska. Some have referred to this part of the NorthWestern US as the last true frontier..and I believe it to be so, having spent many years of my life there.

Hi Bob
I must say that I like that kind of places. Peaceful mountains are great even on cloudy days. Good sharpness and composition. I like also the mood created by sky.
Best wishes

Hi Bob, lovely and peaceful landscape with splendid forest and great mountains, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob!

You should work as a touristic guide: looking at your pictures and listening to your words makes you feel like getting your shoes (if you wear any, I don't) and leave for a hiking tour. Moreover, the nature and the mountains you show us in your simple, yet very pleasant picture complete the friendly invitation.

Kind regards

Namastay Bob,
A lovely capture of this beautiful landscape. Excellent composition with very well managed DOF. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Bob,
Impressive view of this valley with the low clouds in the distance and the fine light on the field in the foreground. Nice contrasts and I like the pine branch on the right framing the view. It looks very wild and beatuful!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

A truly wild land!
Something we can't get here in England... except maybe in Scotland!
Great composition as always.
I like the over-cast sky and dim light.
Excellent sharpness.
Well done Bob,

Hi Bob,

A beautiful scene! I love the green trees and the snow still on the mountains. It reminds me of Frisco CO where my son lived (the next town is Breckinridge). He used to say summer was from sometime after July 4th until August 30th. Superb composition.

Hi Bob,beautifull landscape and excellent colours, thanks to show us this unknown u.s. corners, have a nice day,Luciano

You truly live in a beautiful area. My time in Washington was passing through the Airport in Seattle on my way to S. Korea. They have the best USO I have ever visited. I did get to see what I think was Mt. Rainier on the flight into Seattle. This is a great mountain scene. I hope we get to see it again from the same spot in a couple months.

Hello Bob,
splendid Landscape, all is perfect on this great shot, It seem a Pablominto's post,

Hi Bob

A very beautiful landscape from you presenting this gorgeous natural land.
I'm really sorry you didn't have a superb weather here...as i'm sure you are as well...but i would have loved to have seen this view on a great sunny and haze-free day.
But even so, i can appreciate the depth in this scene and the beautiful areas around you.
Very nicely composed and well presented.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Bob,

Very nice landscape, a place you could rest peacefully enjoying the beautiful nature around and far from the city action. Very pleasant to look at!
Well done!

Hello Bob. This is so pristine. You have created tiers of the mountains under the hazy mood. well kept foreground with the vastness of the field in between. My kind of landscape and thanks for sharing this, Bob. Regards. Jusni

Nice landscape, Bob!
Despite the gold mines nearby, the only signs of human interference here is the partial clearance of forest. Nice to see the pine needles on the edge: it completes the perspective to the mountain in the BG.
Thanks for sharing this fine image and the informative note.

Hi Bob,
a lovely wide open view with an immense feeling of space...i have to travel far to North West Scotland to get anything close to wilderness in my country. You guys in America have a very precious resource in your wild spaces, you are very lucky indeed. Thanks for sharing this little slice of it with us.

Just beautiful Bob, great compo and very good technique. Good POV and DOF, good job!

Fantastic landscape. Wonderfully composed. Great framing by the mountains. You lead the eye into the photo.

Hi Bob,

A nice country and mountains scenery, the point of view leads our eyes towards the mountains. The trees in the foreground are a good addition to the composition. It is giving a sensation of tranquillity and loliness. have a nice day.
