I have come to the conclusion that Mother Nature is suffering from a severe case of PMS and I hope she makes up and makes nice with Father Winter! This Robin was waiting out the snow in a tree several feet from my balcony, and since the sidewalks were icy, I figured I'd shoot it. The conditions were rough in that not only did I have to deal with wind and snow, but lighting was anything but great.

Still, I am reminded that these robins are hardy creatures, and they manage to endure climates other birds aren't doing so well in. I've found three dead sparrows over the past couple of days - probably due to the unseasonable winter havoc that seems to be pounding our area.

I'm seeing out extra water for the birds and extra feed because I love waking up to song birds and I know during these stressful times, they need extra fuel to keep warm.

Hopefully I'm just as hardy as these robins, managing to make it through days even when I don't believe it's possible. There's a bit of a lesson here for me: if these birds can carry on even while others are dying, then despite the hardships in my life, I, too, can carry on. As they say, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Hello Kathy,
Excellent composition on this beautiful Robin in snow!
the image is very sharp with wonderful colouration and much details!
well done
best regards

Hi Kathy,
A very nice shot indeed, beautiful contrast between the colored bird and the white snowy background. Great details indeed and sharpness is also ok, I just think I see some kind of whiter mark going down from around the eye towards the wing, like if you had a tiny stitch or a bit of snow on your lens?
A great shot anyway,

Hi Kathy, now there's an oxymoron for you. Robins are supposed to be the harbingers of spring aren't they? This is a well timed shot on your part, catching this guy in the tree full of snow like this. It's a good shot, well composed, with excellent exposure with that snow. The bird is in good colour and shows excellent detail. You can almost see the shivering going on there.

Thanks, John

These are some wonderfully tough little birds, hanging out in the snow, waiting for spring like the rest of us. :)
Great shot...good sharpness and focus, nice colors and contrasts. :)
