[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

Hummingbirds are very small birds with a high metabolism. A great deal of energy is spent flying, so they must feed almost constantly. Hummingbirds can consume up to 50% of their weight in sugar (nectar solution) each day. They usually feed on nectar and insects. Hummingbirds actually lap up the nectar with their tongues. A lot of people think that hummingbirds have a hollow tongue like a straw. Their tongues do have grooves on the sides that collect nectar. When the bill constricts, the hummingbird can swallow the nectar from flowers and feeders.

Hello Jane,
A really great in-flight of a juvenile Black-chinned Hummingbird. The sharpness, POV and composition are fantastic and the flowers are a great part of the image.
Very nice too and thanks for sharing this delight,

Hello Jane, perfect shot of this hummingbird. TFS.
Regards, Bahadır

Hi Jane, a great action close-up with wonderful details. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jane,

great shot, Exellent exposuretime.
Sharpness and unsharpness at one time.
You captured this very well!

Hello Jane,

I must compliment you on this superb shot of the Hummingbird suspended in space! The detailed body contrasted with the blur of the wings relays a message of speed!
The dof is good too and prevents the b/g flowers detracted from the main image.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

hello Jane

in the last month where i was absent i missed alot
of your excellent images, i decide to choose this one
(to have smileys to every one) because the Hummingbird
is on flight (i wish Paul could be among us),
fine POV and framing, beautiful luminosity and colours
i love the most, the Hummingbird's wings motion, TFS

Something really popped the cork out of your wine bottle Jane:-) I would toast you Shalom on this image..you know how hard it is to find a bottle of Mogen David here in E Washington???? Seriously.....renecks and survivalists..none of whom would enjoy your wonderful work as I and all of TN'ers do...although perhaps in NYC...but it has been years yes? or have you visited? A Tree Grows in Brooklyn...good book...I wonder if they have lovely aviaries such as this? Or are they stuck with pigeons and gulls?!

Hello my friend Jane,
Very cheerful image today with the colourful flower against the blue sky! the inflight of the Humming even makes more alive!
