[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Castilleja linariifolia Wyoming Paintbrush

In contrast to the Castilleja species posted yesterday, here is another from the same genus and in much the saem location. There are 200 species in this North Ame4rican genus, so I am still not 100% certain of the correct species name, but This seems to be the most likely from the web sites I have found.

The picture has been cropped, resized and sharpened for TN.

Erect, gray-green becoming purplish, hairless or slightly hairy. Stems with few branches. Leaves linear, edges rolled upward, entire or rarely with upper leaves 3-lobed. Flower bracts 1/3–1 in., generally divided into 3 narrow lobes, bright red, orange, or yellow; calyx unevenly divided, more deeply cut in front, red, more noticeable than bracts. Flower yellow-green with red edges. Grows in dry rocky sites, plains, sagebrush, juniper forests, at mid to high elevations. A showy plant. State flower of Wyoming.

Rarity: Locally Common
Flowering Time: Mid Summer
Life Cycle: Perennial
Height: 12--40 inches
Habitat: Shrub-Steppe, East-Side Forest, Dry Rocky Sites
Found In: Steens, Great Basin
Native to USA: Yes

Bonjour Alan,
Très belle macro dans laquelle le sujet, sous un bon éclairage, est bien mis en valeur par la finesse des détails et la délicatesse des couleurs.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
