[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this shot early today during my regular visit to
Gilbert Riparian Preserve. I think this is by far my best shot of a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) so

Birds east of the Rocky Mountains in the northern part of their range are migratory and winter in Central America or northern South America. From the southern United States southwards, and on the Pacific coast, they are year-round residents. However their hardiness is such that individuals often remain through cold northern winters, as well.

It has been recorded as a vagrant in England6, Greenland, Hawaii, and the Azores

Hello Everton

Terrific POV for this large heron.
The plumage shows well, and you have achieved excellent eye detail.
Lovely natural colours.
Great job minimizing the civilization in the scene,it still has a wild feel to it despite the man made perch.
Well focused .
Well done.

Hallo Everton
Yes I agree, this is indeed a striking bird in a beautiful pose. The details of the whole bird are beautifully captured, from the tuft of fine feathers on its head right down to the matchstick legs. The clarity of the eye is remarkable as not only is the yellow well seen even the black pupil that looks like a dot. The dried grass creates a great natural looking backdrop. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.

I agree with you, Everton; this certainly is your best image of a Heron.
You got the best point of view here to capture the bird in full profile. The picture is very life-like with superb details and all natural colors. I especially like the plume extending behind the head of the bird.
TFS and regards.

Hello Everton,
A great capture of a Great Blue Heron: the POV, composition and lighting are ideal and the sharpness shows it up well against the OOF natural contrasting BG.
A very nice shot and thanks for sharing it!

Hi Everton,

This is an excellent capture of the Heron. I think it is one of your best shots. Marvelous colors and details from head to toe. The face and yellow eye are magnificent. He stands out so well from the background. Lovely natural setting and wonderful composition.
