Surround by large boulders, millions of year old and covered with many forms of Lichen, the small deer path wanders upwards to the tall pine trees near the temporary top of the hill....and then from there as far as the eye can see...is nothing but trees, rocks, climbing and every so often a notion that one day...maybe 100 years ago or so...Native Americans lived here among hardened Anglo-Saxon settlers from the East.

High on bleak, stony rag,
Unmoving, he sits astride
His ragged coated pony.
Only telltale frozen breaths,
Separate them from
The still, winter black boles
Of ancient leafless trees.
The pony, blown and lame,
Stands with lowered head,
Ears flattened to the sound
Of a distant wolf pack.
The man on his back,
All weapons lost,
Ignores the trickling blood
From savage wounds,
Mingling his war paint.
Eyes burning fiercely
He strains to find
The sign he seeks:
Behind, the sound of enemy
Draws ever closer.

Hola Sr. Bob.
This is a fine Landscape, beautiful colors in all the image, very sharp. Lichen and pine trees are lovely.
Have a nice weekend My friend.

Hi Bob
Looks like the lichen covered rocks might be basalt from a previous lava flow. It's hard to say without a closer look. You've captured a pretty little spot that I'm sure many animals and humans have visited over the years. Well captured and love your descriptive poem.

Hello Bob,
Those are the largest groupings of Lichen I have ever seen! The clumps are massive, and jet gray. I have seen the gray Lichen several times before, but never this large.
Great note, it sounds as if W. J. Bruce may have actually sat with the Brave on his last days, or his writing was concerning the plight of the last free Native Americans that lived within the borders of the US.

Hi Bob,

A beautiful scene with the lichen covered boulders, the path, trees and wonderful blue sky. Now you're the one with the pretty sky and I heard today record heat is headed your way. I do hope you are better soon - unfortunately I know what it's like not to be able to get around.

Your career in photography has taught you, and is teaching us, the way to use light Bob.
This is the perfect way to capture these Cusion Mosses on the rock, their well-lit contours dominating the shape of the rock while the lichens play a subsidiary role. This scene is nicely framed by the surrounding vegetation and trees.
Thanks and have a good Sunday,
Ivan

Ciao Bob, beautiful lichen in a splendid forest, lovely composition with fantastic colors, I like a lot, have a great Sunday, ciao Silvio

Hello Bob,
Again a very natural and "archaic" picture. I like the light falling on this place, especially illuminating the pack of lichens on the basaltic stone. A place I love, my kind of areas, full of energy and history!
Thanks so much
Anne

How can you treat light in such different ways, Bob??!!!
You're simply amazing!
Bravo!
Goldy

Hi Bob,

The boulder in the foreground and the trees are framing well the path. The point of view takes our eyes toward the trees in the background which is giving depth to the composition. The luminosity is enhancing the colors of the scenery. have a nice day.
