Today boys and girls (read as in Mr Rogers of Public TV in the US), we learned how to decorate our old satellite TV antenna. First we got rid of the dish, which left us with a large tripod of steel to hold a small, very small HDTV antenna instead of Direct TV. It sits in this outlandish way on my apartment back deck. so I decided to make it into an Xmas tree.....and off we went to the woods to find some real garland.

Jane and I were both in the mood so we traveled a few miles off into the Turnbull Wildlife refuge to find some greenery to hide the man made metals and such....and of course I took my camera. I am making a small and funny video about how to transform man made junk into natural, good looking "things". And on our trip I saw this rather new and so well self polished cone on its branch. Since I was only looking for fallen things (being ever so kind to Mother Earth), I didn't take IT but I took its picture and Jane said..."It is good!" So here I am on my favorite spot posting this PINE CONE.

I wish all a Happy and snow filled Holiday Season. Here in America it is coming on thanksgiving..and then what we call Black Friday in which we become true Capitalistic and buy a lot of stuff...I don't think it is good though...as the Yen is worth more than the dollar. How odd...and this PINE CONE? It could care less!

If you want to attract some birds try this.
Tie a few feet of string to a pine cone. Cover the pine cone with the mixture below. Roll the pine cone in birdseed and then suspend it from a tree branch outside. The set up your camera tripod and go to work!

Hello neighbor!!
A perfectly composed image of this beautiful pine cone. The detail is unsurpassed and the color tones very natural. Super DOF achieved in this shot and the exposure is right on the money.
The weather here has been very mild here lately, but I haven't had much time to get out and about, been busy with Christmas music at church. Hope everything is fine with you guys out in Washington and wish you all a Happy Holiday Season.

Hi Bob!

It's so fine to see a posting from you. And many thanks for your good wishes. You accompany them with such a simple and beautiful picture, a delicate natural decoration. And I appreciate the fact that you didn't take it but just looked at it on its tree very much.

Kind regards

Markus

The composition with the needles radiating from the pine cone is perfect Bob.
I like to see the structure of this opened cone, here shown with fine sharpness. It sure is inviting to fill the spaces once occupied by pines seeds with goodies for the birds - great idea!
Next week I'm singing in the Advent consert with the choir so our Holiday Season is well under way. I wish you and Jane a happy time.
All the best,
Ivan

Hi Bob,a beautiful composition and a very nice note too, your work is always nice and unusual...have a nice Sunday and thanks!! Luciano

Glad to see something new from you on the eve of Christmas Bob, evidently your composing eye was again at full tilt, capturing this majestically open cone in pleasant detail, which is also a tribute to the dispersal capabilities of pines.
Cheers and best regards...
Mehmet

Hello Bob,
Very funny idea to decorate satellite TV antennae!
Very fine and simple picture which you present with a pleasing horizontal composition and perfect sharpness. Cones of pines are always very attractive, I also have some in my archives..
I like your personal and original notes very much too.
Thanks and kind regards
Anne

Hi Bob!

The detail in this is just superb, excellent contrast in colours, one can almost smell the pine.

Just lacking a little snow and a Red Robin, but no doubt the snow will come :) not sure about the Robin, really nice mate.

Cheers Rick :)

Alexei.

Sharp. Well composed. Wonderful color. And so "SEASONAL."

Hi Bob,

The point of view is showing the details and colors of the cone and of the branch. The subject is well framed. The quality of the light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.
