[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was out for a walk with the dog one evening at dusk when I spotted this Mule Deer in the distance. I have not yet mastered the art of taking pictures in low light with my camera but I love this scene even though it is an imperfect picture and wanted to share it with you. I also thought it would be nice to show off where I live with this celebratory post.

The Sonoran Desert

The Sonoran Desert is a North American desert which straddles part of the United States-Mexico border and covers large parts of the U.S. states of Arizona and California and the Mexican state of Sonora. It is one of the largest and hottest deserts in North America, with an area of 120,000 square miles (311,000 km˛).

The desert contains an incredible array of unique plants and animals, such as the saguaro cactus that can live to be 250 years old and the kangaroo rat that never needs to drink water. On January 17, 2001, 496,337 acres (2,008 km˛) of the Sonoran Desert was set aside as the Sonoran Desert National Monument for the purpose of enhancing resource protection.

The Sonoran is well known for its beauty and spectacular cacti. In spite of the harsh climate of this desert, there is diverse plant and animal life. This desert, in fact, has the greatest diversity of vegetative growth of any desert in the world.

The Sonoran Desert includes 60 mammal species, 350 bird species, 20 amphibian species, over 100 reptile species, 30 native fish species, and more than 2,000 native plant species.

The Sonoran Desert includes such plants from the agave family, palm family, cactus family, legume family, and many others. Most plants not only survive the harsh conditions of the Sonoran Desert, but they actually thrive. Many have evolved to have specialized adaptations to the desert climate.

Congratulations on reaching your 600th posting.
You mark the occasion with a well composed beautiful Arizona scene, the cactuses and Mule Deer making up a fine composition against the mountain ridge BG. The colours in the evening lighting are beautiful though the low light has led to some softness in the image, but that does not spoil its beauty!

What a wonderful scene for post # 600! ... awesome! ... truly captivating, deep and full of pleasant visual content. Obviously, the limitations of light are seen in various respects, 1/60s ISO 80 is not the best for this type of scenes. But the picture is so good, so captivating, so eloquent ... that makes this secondary! ... I send you a standing ovation, a hug and congratulations! ... Is a pleasure to see your photos in TN!

Hello Jane, Congratulations on #600!!
As you already stated a little noise is evident, but still a wonderful shot of this little fork horn buck who is still in velvet. I like the way he is proudly standing watch over his beautiful little valley.
I vividly remember the gorgeous mountainous landscape views from your patio. The desert scenery and plants surrounding your home area were simply breathtaking, and the wildlife was a special treat altogether. Thank you for sharing just a tiny glimpse of what you get to see every day.
