This is a flock of Pine Siskin birds I saw while visiting my grandparent's house in Northstar-at-Tahoe, California. Pine Siskins are very social birds, often living in very close proximity to one another. They are foragers, their diet consisting mainly of spruce, birch, and thistle seeds, along with insects in the summer. The birds in the photo are searching for food in the snow.
