[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These Yellow Bellied Marmots were found along the road to the Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado.

The Marmot is a large ground squirrel (a little larger than a large domesticated cat) found in the high mountain regions of western North America. They have been known to hibernate upwards of 8 months of the year. They are generally very shy creatures around humans but in many of the touristy areas of Colorado's high mountains they have become accustomed to humans and people can get quite close to them. They are generally very sociable with their own kind living within large groups.

These 2 are of about 10 or more Marmots along the rocks on the side of maroon Creek Road at a very large avalanche chute, the one on the left must have been a guard for all the others, as I got closer he started letting out a really loud chirping sound as the others including the one on the right, hid under the rocks.

Again the display here is off, the image again is flat and dark and off in color quite a bit, I guess I will have to learn how to process images for display on this site. Until then here is the same shot but on my own website which shows accurate brightness and color: http://paulscoloradophotography.zenfolio.com/p924769284/h28636dd8#h28636dd8

Hello Paul,
A wonderful shot of these two attractive marmots who seemed to pose perfectly for this particular shot. I did check out your site and agree, the coloration in it is alot different then what appears here. I don't know why this is, since I haven't experienced this problem with any of my own photos.
If I hadn't viewed your other photo, I would have thought this is their natural color. Anyhow I really like your presentation and all the technical aspect of this beautiful image.
Ron
