Rosa acicularis is the Wild Rose which grows abundantly in Washington state, just about every location I have lived in including my own wilderness property in the mountains.

This rose is not as nice smelling as its hybrid sisters and brothers... but it is much more abundant in flora on the bushes. For this reason it does not attract as many bees as other flora. This particular bush is growing on a dirt path which is barely accessible by wheelchair and I take a certain amount of chance trying to get in close but it was worth it after what we call a pop-up shower.. those are small cells of rain which can pop up any time even on a sunny day and sometimes bring rainbows delight. The rain also adds a certain flavour to the flora.. making it very pretty.

In the winter after the first frost, I frequently pick the rode hips. They are very high in natural vitamin C which I use in my teas.

Thank you much my old and new friends for welcoming me back. I shall try to stay as long as there is true natural subjects in my small range...

Hello Bob,
I must admit, a real beauty for a wild rose. If you remember we also have a wild species here in Ohio, but it is not nearly as full a bloom and brightly colored as those out west.
Glad you didn't get caught in the quick shower, but also thankful you still went out afterwards and captured this beautiful image to share with us.

Hard to believe that such striking colours are to be found in the wild Bob, but we have a similar species here too, though it originated in Siberia.
Great you could take such a fine close-up from your wheelchair. The raindrops give the image added freshness.
Looks like the colour is the attraction for insects, rather than the scent.
Thanks and all the best,
Ivan

Hello Bob,
Colorful shot, Bob. Lovely flower even if this rose doesn't smell so much, but the flower has a fine shape and the rain-shower made it look most attractive.
You have seen it and we thank for this joyful shot.
Kind regards
Anne
