i found this whitish-red mushroom on the forest trail, in the core region of Shelby Farms Park. only two of them were there. though it was quite impossible to stop even for a while as the mosquitoes were constantly biting us, but this mushroom looked so different and against that dark BG the colour was striking eyes. had to stop for a second or two to take a shot. and then started running again :D
eager to know the ID of this beautiful mushroom. need help..
could it be Rosy Russula (Russula rosea)? or, Shrimp Mushroom (Russula xerampelina)? what's about Caesar's Mushroom (Amanioomta caesarea)?
well, i think this mushroom belongs to the genus 'Russula', but species? not sure. pls help!

Ciao Ruby, I cannot help for id, but I like this lovely fungus, splendid light, excellent sharpness and wonderful colors, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
Hi Ruby,
First of all it's a great shot, I don't know why it wasn't commented by others except for Silvio. Great colors, excellently taken focus and marvellous DoF. Bravo!
Your mushroom is surely a Russula, but not of those you mentioned. It belongs to the Russula emetica group (see the pale, yellowish red cap colors!), probably, according to the yellow spots on the cap Russula luteotacta Rea, but some of its closer relatives are possible, too. They're almost indistinguishable from each other without microscopic analysation.
Best regards, László
