this is a Gulf Fritillary butterfly (Agraulis vanillae), and seems to be a male. had been seeing them recently.. around me. but they being so restless, a dorsal view was becoming a dream :)
then, at last. on my second day at the Shelby Farms Park.

while in India, i used to see these butterflies on my computer screen.. it was one of those butterflies which had both the views: dorsal & ventral, so attractive! i wished i could see them someday for real.. well, then here i am :)

happy to share my fourth butterfly species from United States. thanks for viewing.

Hello Ruby,
Seems like Shelby Farms Park has been a dream place for you lately...almost like treasure Island. I love this shot of the Gulf Fritillary as it shows it off very well. The fully opend winged pose gives us a great view of it's beautiful colors and attractive markings.
Ron
PS. I had to check out Shelby Farm Park on the web and it looks like a great place to spend the day with a camera. It said it is one of the largest urban parks in the United States.
