A scenic view of the Mammoth Lakes area in the eastern sierras. this view is from the 11,000 ft. elevation at the top of Mammoth Mountian looking out upon Lake Mary, Lake George and Horseshoe Lake.
"Mammoth Lakes resides on the edge of the Long Valley Caldera. The area around the town is geologically active, with hot springs and rhyolite domes that are less than 1000 years old."(wikipedia)
"Mammoth Mountain was built by a series of approximately 25 separate eruptive episodes between 110,000 and 57,000 years ago. The eruptions were fed by a magma body located somewhere beneath the mountain and has a source separate from the magma body beneath Long Valley caldera."(usgs.society)

Hallo Karen
What a pleasant view of the Mammoth Lake area with a lot of detail to appreciate. I agree with Maciek that this is a good presentation and also that the point of view is excellent as there are so much to see in the scene. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Karen,

Beautiful photo, even if a bit small, but the view is sweeping and those clouds are wonderful addition to complement the snow. I just won a lottery for the permit to go up to Mt Whitney on Labor Day. It will be a chanllenge, but we are going to try. It supposed to take 16 hrs. So we have to start at 4:00 in the mornign. Many people didn't make it, so we'll see if I make it.

Good shot here.
