[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The golden color of the water comes from the reflection of the surrounding reeds in the marshes.

Common Moorhen
Gallinula chloropus

Gallinule poule-d'eau, Poule d'eau (French)?Pollo de agua, Gallareta frentirroja, Pollona negra (Spanish)?Common Gallinule, Florida Gallinule (English)

The most widely distributed member of the rail family, the Common Moorhen inhabits marshes and ponds from Canada to Chile, from northern Europe to southern Africa, and across Asia to the Pacific. Vocal and boldly marked, the species can be quite conspicuous, sometimes using its long toes to walk atop floating vegetation.

Description
• Dark, with white flank stripe.
• Red bill and forehead.
• Swims on surface of water like a duck.
• Bill triangular like a chicken's, not flat like a duck's.
• White stripe on sides of undertail.
• Size: 32-35 cm (13-14 in)
• Wingspan: 54-62 cm (21-24 in)
• Weight: 310-456 g (10.94-16.1 ounces
• Sexes similar, male slightly larger.

Sound
A highly varied repertoire of calls, including clucks, whinnies, cackles, squawks, and yelps.

Cool Facts
• The Common Moorhen has long toes that makes it possible to walk on soft mud and floating vegetation. The toes have no lobes or webbing to help in swimming, but the moorhen is a good swimmer anyway.
• The Common Moorhen sometimes lifts its feet out of the water in front of the body while swimming, perhaps to pass over vegetation.
• Newly hatched chicks of the Common Moorhen have spurs on their wings that help them climb into the nest or grab emergent vegetation.
• Twelve subspecies of Common Gallinule are recognized from around the world, most differing only in size or brightness of plumage. One subspecies is found only in the Hawaiian Islands and has been known as the Hawaiian Gallinule.

hi manyee,
wonderful shot! :-)
"moorhen swimming on a sea of gold".
the water does not look like water,
more like something more viscous.
although the moorhen is a bit noisy
that does not disturb the whole beautiful scene.
well done, thor.

This is a lovely shot Manyee,
The golden reflection is excellent. Very good colours, details and sharpness. Excellent notes.
Thanks for posting, have a great weekend.

Hello Manyee!
Very nice capture.Golden colors of water, contrast,POV and composition are wonderful. Thanks for posting.

Stunning shot Manyee,
Colors are beautiful, the reflection and the light makes it better.
The low angle is good, but the duck is not sharp enough, focus is on the back water.

Gleaming shot, thank you.

It´s beautiful shoot, colours perfects, reflex orange precious, but Area (in Spanish "foco") i´m sorry for my english... ;), it´s in the water.
It´s name in Spanish is Polla d´aigua in Cataluña or Gallineta or Polla de agua in rest Spain. :D Congratulation for your job. Your galery it´s very pretty :D

Hi Manyee,
Those are some amazing colors in that shot. The golden water is beautiful with the ripples and reflection. Nice shot and notes.

Hi Manyee,
The colours of the water are amazing, beautiful gold colour.
Well composed and good details.
Very well done.

Manyee, this is a great photo. Great colours, excellent sharpness, a very nice composite. I like the lighting and reflections. TFS.

These gold colors off the shimmering water are excellent Manyee. Composed well with great color and reflection. Well done & Thank You.

Personal assessment of the photo: very good.
Power of evocation in me: strong. I recently took photos of two of them: all missed. The light was not good... and the photographer also...
Strong visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent.
Personal assessment of the note: complete.
Thank you again and again Manyee.

Just points for a wonderfuly captured moment

Hi Manyee,
A very nice photo from this Moorhen. The colours are fantastic. The bird is contrasting perfectly towards the "golden" water.
The totally black feathers of the birds and the reflection of the water made it very difficult to get a acceptable well balanced picture. You succeeded very well to do so.
Good job! Thx and regards, Ruud
